Property description
Building Casa GUARRO Palau del Baró de Quadras Casa de les Punxes Casa Ametller. The building where the Via Laietana project is located belonged to the Guarro family, a family of great prestige in Barcelona, who commissioned Puig i Cadafalch to design this building. The Guarros were a family of patrons (who contributed to the construction of the Palau de la Música) and a politician who was councilor of culture for the Regionalist League. In this building Puig i Cadafalch is based on a very innovative structure for the time of construction. The building is part of the city’s architectural heritage and is listed. Built in 1922 by Puig i Cadafalch, in its noucentista stage. His works during this period are characterized by greater austerity and a greater concern for functionality, without renouncing elegance and architectural quality. The facade is constructed with a differentiated treatment between the lower, intermediate and upper levels. The ground floor is distributed with columns in which the mezzanine is supported by five semicircular arches, the main floor is a tribune with six pairs of Tuscan columns, on which rests the stone-lined balcony of the upper floor, the following three floors have individual balconies wrought iron, to finish on the top floor with another balcony run in stone and iron, closes the building with a stone railing adorned with six copons.
Living in the Gothic Heritage and history are the strong points of the Gothic quarter. This core includes some of the main points of interest in the city, such as Plaça Reial, the Cathedral or the Call.
Although it only becomes one of the most touristic areas of Barcelona, the neighborhood does the impossible to preserve the warmth of a neighborhood that it appreciates and values.
The location is unbeatable, with the sea close at hand and a lot of culture within reach. In fact, the Gòtic is located in the most central area, next to Plaça de Catalunya, the Rambla, Via Laietana and the port.
In addition, it fulfills the function of the political center of the city, as different institutions are located there, such as the City Council or the Generalitat. El Gòtic is the historic center, where it all began. The streets of the neighborhood have witnessed important events in the 10th century.
From the balcony of the Generalitat, Lluís Companys proclaimed the Republic in 1934; the walls of the harmonious Sant Felip Neri square still bear the marks of the bombings of the war; at the brewery
The Four Cats were chatting with Rusiñol and Picasso, and Àngel Guimerà lived in Carrer de Petritxol, famous for its chocolate shops. The heritage value it represents, the variety and differences of the other neighborhoods that make it up and, therefore, the complexity of the urban processes that develop in this area, have made it specialize in the tertiary sector of activity, and has become the most important trade center in Barcelona and Catalonia.
